There are over 1000 new apps published to the App Store every day.
That's a staggeringly high number.
The advent of AI-coding tools is going to make that number grow even larger.
This prompts an important question that keeps us up at night: what happens to trust, safety, and taste in the age of AI?
Those three elements are distinct from technology. Somewhere a human being has to instill a sense of soul to make those elements work. It's what empowers you to trust apps with your data; it's what keeps children safe online; it's what makes you feel joy when using an app.
"AI slop" puts that at jeopardy.
Saturday is a small company with big ideas.
And we've been working hard on our most important idea ever:
Human-centric apps
A human-centric app is engineered to delight you, not manipulate you. It's built by people who are honored when you use it.
In other words, a human-centric app puts emphasis on trust, safety and taste.
That does not mean human-centric apps are anti-AI.
AI can be harnessed for good. We have built robust internal AI systems to perform content moderation to keep our online communities safe. We use AI to rapidly prototype our design ideas. We're not afraid of AIโwe just believe it should serve people instead of severing the human connection.
AI is a powerful tool and it's not inherently evil.
What you get really depends on who's at the helm.
This letter is our promise to you: Saturday will make human-centric apps. We're not some app factory hyper-optimizing our paywalls to squeeze every last penny out of you while providing some marginal utility. We refuse to be that. No.
We will make apps that delight youโbecause you deserve better.
